Hi, I‘m Christoph Gey a Freelance Creative and Senior Art Director (UI/UX/AI).
Born in the former GDR – a country that no longer exists – I learned early that systems and certainties are temporary. That awareness has shaped what I care about: what’s essential, and what lasts.
Extended stretches in Australia, Thailand, and the US sharpened that lens further. Learning a language means learning a culture, and understanding different cultures teaches you that nothing is better or worse – just different. That principle now shapes how I approach every brief.
I live and work in Leipzig, with a hub in Berlin. As a father of three daughters, I see daily how children question, experiment, and tell you honestly what works and what doesn’t. It’s a constant reminder to stay curious—and to design with real users in mind, not assumptions.
Why I design isn’t a single answer. I enjoy making things more beautiful and more functional, immersing myself in a client’s world, and providing clarity until they can stand confidently on their own. I work with precision and high standards—not from ego, but from responsibility. For me, design is less a profession than a way of thinking, shaped by curiosity, gratitude, humility and my christian values.
Since 2026 I’m a member of the Art Directors Club.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
As a designer, it’s never just function or form. It is the inseparable symbiosis of both that makes design tangible, useful, and meaningful.
Truly exceptional design captures attention, fosters understanding, and creates connection – not simply because it works, but because it engages emotionally and invites intellectual engagement.
Stefan Sagmeister puts it perfectly: “Beauty is not a superficial luxury, but an integral part of what truly works. When beauty is taken seriously, it does more than enhance the experience – it shapes behavior, perception, and use. Many structures or products conceived purely for function – such as numerous residential buildings from the 1970s – often failed because they were not beautiful, and people simply did not want to engage with them.”
Beauty is not decoration; it is clarity, humanity, and resonance – and it is what makes content and meaning truly perceptible. In digital products and brand experiences, this means approaching technical constraints not as limitations, but as creative challenges: beauty and function amplify each other, making a product genuinely useful and valuable for the people who experience it.
AWARDS
I don’t strive for awards, but rather for my clients’ satisfaction. I design out of curiosity and joy – not for rewards or recognition. Even so, a few dust-gatherers have found their way to me.
D&AD Best of Year, 2x Art Directors Club „Silver Nails“, 2x Red Dot Design Award „Best of Best“, 2x Deutscher Design Club „Silver“, Annual Multimedia Award, Corporate Design Preis, Deutscher Digital Award, German Design Award, Middlesex University „First Class Honours“, Work featured on the Apple Store, on Behance,
But the best award was my “Seepferdchen” badge at school. I really had to fight for that one.
MY DESIGN PROCESS
Good design doesn’t happen in isolation. It emerges through collaboration with my clients. I open up the process so two perspectives come together to create something magnificent. The process itself should feel effortless and pleasant. No one wants unnecessary drama.
Collaborative: I work as part of your team or as a solo show. I can lead and I can follow — whatever works best for your business goals. You decide. But I strongly believe that different perspectives help shape better ideas and products. It takes the brave, the doubter, the visionary, and the doer.
Direct: I work eye to eye. Remote or at your kitchen table. No detours, no distance. If you book me, you will get me. My full attention – my devotion. You can be sure: I want to make your project the best of my career.
Live: On request, I design directly with you on screen. For some clients it works better than presenting the outcome in a big “TADA” event. No finished draft as a surprise. Just the work, visible as it takes shape.
Personal: I work discreetly, reliably, and without ego. My bookings reach up to six and a half years. I’m faithfull. I’m a calm, trusted partner in critical phases and jump in on weekenders or overnighters if needed. I never miss a deadline. NEVER.
Corporate Design
I craft foundational corporate identities that transcend fleeting trends. My approach merges strategic depth with an unmistakable visual language to give brands an enduring soul. From precise logo development to complex design systems and brand manuals: I create the visual substance upon which global leaders like Audi or Volvo build their future.
Digital Product Design
Within the realm of AI/UI/UX design, I shape digital ecosystems that feel as premium as they function. My objective is a symbiosis of technological precision and human intuition. I develop scalable design systems, user interfaces and cross-platform experiences for premium brands. Every interface is bespoke – distilled to the essentials and perfected with the tactile grace of digital surfaces.
Conceptual Art Direction
I find visual metaphors for the intangible. As a Senior Art Director, I treat illustration and conceptual imagery not as mere decoration, but as strategic storytelling. Whether through surreal abstraction or meticulous precision, I create unique assets that emotionally charge brand values and ensure exclusive differentiation in the age of AI. It is the sophisticated interplay of strategic intellect and handcrafted art direction.

UNIVERSITIES
A graphic designer’s work is very demanding. Technology evolves, the zeitgeist shifts, and new insights are gained in space exploration, science, and medicine. That is why my life consists of learning.
Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) at Middlesex University in London, UK
Diploma “Communication Design” at Kölner Design Akademie in Cologne, Germany
At least the quadruple of time I spend in museums studying the old masters, watching interviews of designers and legends, making tutorials online, experimenting offline, browsing design plattforms, reading specialist articles, talking to colleagues, testing software and hardware … I still continue that.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
When the world grows dark, become the light.
I see it as my responsibility to pass on financial blessing. My income gives me the chance to support 2 godchildren in Africa on a constant basis and aid agencies such as:
TARGET e.V., Doctors without borders, Engineers without borders, Compassion, Plan, SOS Kinderdorf and NABU.
