Hi, I‘m Christoph Gey a Freelance Senior Art Director and UI/UX Designer by conviction — not by chance.
Born in the former GDR, in a country that no longer exists, I learned early on that systems, securities, and certainties are transient. Perhaps this awareness shaped my focus on what is essential and lasting.
Extended journeys through Australia, Thailand, the United States, and other parts of the world further refined this perspective. Learning a language is learning a culture. Understanding cultures teaches that nothing is better or worse — everything is simply different. Observing these differences, respecting them, and integrating them into my work continues to define how I approach design. I live and work in Leipzig. I am a father of three daughters and one of three siblings. Family is a source of responsibility and perspective.
Children challenge what seems to work, experiment, and abstract — showing honestly what succeeds and what doesn’t. Seeing the world through their eyes shifts focus, reveals blind spots, and inspires curiosity. At the same time, it reminds me of the responsibility I carry for their well-being and education.
Why I design cannot be reduced to a single answer.
I enjoy making things more beautiful and functional. I enjoy immersing myself in the worlds of my clients, understanding their microcosms, and accompanying them along their journey — until they can stand confidently on their own. My role is to provide clarity, guidance, and structure, and then step back when the work can sustain itself.
As a freelancer, I work with commitment, precision, and high standards. Not from ego, but from responsibility. I am proud of what I can achieve, yet deeply grateful for the circumstances that brought me here. Design is less a profession for me than a way of life — a practice of attentiveness, reflection, and care. My work is shaped by responsibility, gratitude, and humility — values deeply rooted in my Christian faith.
Corporate Design
I craft foundational corporate identities that transcend fleeting trends. My approach merges strategic depth with an unmistakable visual language to give brands an enduring soul. From precise logo development to complex design systems and brand manuals: I create the visual substance upon which global leaders like Audi or Volvo build their future.
User Interface and User Experience
Within the realm of UI/UX design, I shape digital ecosystems that feel as premium as they function. My objective is a symbiosis of technological precision and human intuition. I develop scalable user interfaces, pattern libraries, and cross-platform experiences for premium brands. Every interface is bespoke—distilled to the essentials and perfected with the tactile grace of digital surfaces.
Conceptual Art Direction
I find visual metaphors for the intangible. As a Senior Art Director, I treat illustration and conceptual imagery not as mere decoration, but as strategic storytelling. Whether through surreal abstraction or meticulous precision, I create unique assets that emotionally charge brand values and ensure exclusive differentiation in the age of AI. It is the sophisticated interplay of strategic intellect and handcrafted art direction.
Some of my lovely clients
Most agencies offer teams, meetings, and processes. When you hire me, you get me – and my undivided attention. My work is defined by the surgical precision of over 15 years for global leaders like Audi, Volvo, Swarovski and the discreet excellence required by Swiss institutions such as the media powerhouse Ringier. It is a dedication so consistent that partners like DFL Digital Sports have trusted me since 2020, and Dyn Media since 2022 on a daily basis.
I personally sign off on every pixel. To maintain this level of excellence, I accept only a limited number of projects per year. Not because I lack the capacity, but because true quality requires the luxury of time to breathe.
Awards
I’m not aiming for winning awards but the satisfaction of my clients. Nevertheless I got some in my pockets.
2x Art Directors Club „Silver Nails“, 2x Red Dot Design Award „Best of Best“, D&AD Best of Year, 2x Deutscher Design Club „Silver“, Annual Multimedia Award, Corporate Design Preis Award, Deutscher Digital Award, German Design Award, Middlesex University „First Class Honours“, work featured on the Apple Store, on Behance, …

“Design requires different tools at different moments. Sometimes you need the precision of a scalpel, sometimes the force of a hammer — knowing when to use which is part of the craft.”

Let's create something meaningful together
I love what I do - for me, design is less of a job and more of a calling. That's why I enjoy working with ambitious individuals and mid-sized businesses just as much as I do with global players. If you bring that same passion to your project, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s find out together how we can take your vision to the next level.
